Hey Jaime!
Thanks for your patience waiting on a reply. We get a ton of email here at TRS and it simply takes our team a little while to get through them while still offering the personal service we're known for. Having said that, this is going to be a long email!
Anyways, we’ve worked with tons of Mazda owners over the years, so we can definitely recommend a solid setup for your projector retrofit. To start, since your headlights are relatively small - size is going to be our first consideration. I'll start by recommending the most popular setup first and provide some info on the options- and we can go from there to sort out any questions, etc you might have.
Bi-Xenon Morimoto Mini H1 Stage III Kit
Projectors: Morimoto Mini H1 7.0 (LHD)

Ballast Igniters: Morimoto XB Igniter (AMP)
HID bulbs: H1 XB 4500K-6500K

Optional Headlight Sealant: Recommended (Gray or Black)
With everything you need for both headlights, the kit comes out to $270 shipped.
Projectors: Not only are the Morimoto Mini H1’s the smallest projectors on the market, they offer the best mix of performance and ease of install. With modern optics and their standard clear lens, their light output is comparable or better than most OEM projectors. They have a threaded mounting shaft that will fit through the existing hole in the back of your headlight reflector (where the light bulb comes through now) and locks on with the included hardware. You may need to buzz off a little bit of material from hole in the reflector to install the projector – but that’s about it as far as modification goes. If you've got 4.5" of depth inside your headlight buckets, you're good to go.
Your install will be most like the one we covered in this
video for H7, H4 equipped headlights.
Or this
video for 9006, H11, 9007, etc headlights.
Ballasts: Standard equipment in the kit is the Morimoto XB35. Being a 35-watt ballast, it’s the most efficient, longest lasting option, and also happens to be standard in all cars that come stock with HID headlights. Since the XB ballasts came out in November of 2014, we’ve sold over 100,000 of them and they have a super low failure rate of just about .04% - which is awesome.
Igniters: these are a standard option that all kits need, so you can just leave that as-is.
Bulbs: the only decision is on the Kelvin rating, which is basically just the color of the light output. 4500K bulbs produce a warm white color, that’s what all vehicles with factory HIDs use. 5500K is the most popular option since it’s a pure white color, offers the best mix of actual intensity and neutral color. 6500K bulbs are still mostly white, but have a very slight tinge of blue. We have a helpful visual comparison online
here
Morimoto HID bulbs are standard equipment because they offer the best bang for buck in terms of reliability and precision.
Shrouds: The Mini Gatling Gun shroud that comes standard with the kit is popular because it covers the projector completely without taking up much space. You can go for a different shroud for a few bucks more, just beware they’re all a bit bigger and will likely require a little bit of trimming to fit within the geometry of your headlight housings. You can actually see what all the options look like
here
Harness: I put the right one for you in the parts list above. This will make sure the new projector system will be plug n play and work properly off the stock headlight wiring. No cutting/splicing required.
Headlight Sealant is recommended to help ensure you don’t get any moisture inside the light after re-sealing. Halos are just for looks, that’s totally up to you.
Doing a projector retrofit is easily the best way to improve the performance and modernize the look of your headlights. While it’s not a super easy mod, it’s not rocket science either and if you’ve got some common sense, a dremel tool, and a free day on the weekend; you should be able to knock it out. You can probably even see a handful of installs previous TRS customers have posted with our parts with a quick Google search.
As for fogs, since we don't have a direct Morimoto XB LED fog replacements, I highly recommend our new 2Stroke 9006 LEDs:
https://www.theretrofitsource.com/led-lighting/led-bulbs/2stroke-9006-led.html#.V37BjrgrKUk
But before ordering, please verify that your rectangle fogs do indeed take 9006 bulbs. Mazda's fogs come in two different styles as well as two different bulb size. The best way to determine the bulb size is to look on the bulb itself. Also keep in mind, the back of the 2Stroke LED bulbs are longer than oem bulbs, so space is limited. You may be required to modify or move components behind your fogs to make the 2Stroke fit.
If you have any other questions on this or any other lighting upgrades we might have for you- feel free to reply back and we'll be glad to help out! You can also hit us up via Live Chat during store hours for any quick questions.
Thanks again Jamie!
